Scandic Stortorget

The hotel is above a nightclub that plays trashy music until 3 a.m. on Monday nights. I still think guests should be warned about the noisy rooms. After a really good experience with the front desk staff, who were very nice and moved me to another room, I’ve updated my review.

Breakfast was careless and tasteless, far below what I’d expect. Our room also wasn’t cleaned properly, with rubbish and dirt left by previous guests. We paid SEK 11’617 (€1’056/$1’229) for six nights in February, and the quality was nowhere near worth that. The room was shockingly small, and the windows offered no insulation. Clubs and bars nearby played music until 3 a.m. every night of the week, not just weekends. Then, from as early as 5 a.m., deliveries, garbage trucks, and clattering glass disposal started up. Most nights we were lucky to get 2-3 hours of sleep. The constant lack of rest ruined our vacation and made the stay miserable. With those sleepless nights, the poor quality, and the high price, I can only call Scandic Stortorget a disgrace to the brand. I’d strongly advise people considering it to look elsewhere.

We really liked the breakfast, but there wasn’t nearly enough room for all the guests. There also weren’t enough staff to clear tables and seat people, so lots of solo guests ended up taking tables for four. The hotel’s nice and reasonably priced for the location, though a bit dated.

The one star is for the decent breakfast. The rest was the worst hotel experience I’ve had. Poorly sealed window frames let in loud music until 3 a.m., so I couldn’t sleep. When I mentioned it at checkout, the staff simply said there was nothing they could do about the noise. The bedding smelled unpleasant too, which made resting even harder. If a hotel can’t give guests somewhere to sleep, it has no value as a hotel. There was construction going on as well, and the place looked nothing like the photos on Google.
