Stiftsgården Rättvik

The check-in staff were very nice, but after that we didn’t run into other staff. We stayed with our dog in one of the dog rooms, and the floors hadn’t been cleaned. The decor and comfort felt more like summer camp than a hotel. The food at breakfast wasn’t great. They don’t replenish the bacon, boiled eggs, or fruit, so you need to arrive right at 8 to get what you want. You can choose to skip room cleaning, and they donate that money to young people and others who can’t afford to visit, so they can enjoy the place too. That was a lovely gesture, and we opted in. It seems like a perfect place for a kids’ camp.

The place is run by the local church and is marked as a safe place for people with substance abuse, which means no alcohol is allowed on the premises. We ran into some logistics problems when it was busy. The rooms are basic but fresh, and we slept well despite the extreme heat outside. There’s a playroom for kids with toys from the 80s and 90s, which they enjoyed and parents may find nostalgic.

The hotel sits in a historic building right by lake Siljan, with a spectacular view. It’s quiet, affordable, and the staff are nice. Breakfast is a treat, with everything you could ask for, and it’s a great spot for families with young kids. The Swedish church runs the hotel, so they don’t serve alcohol, which is why I’m giving it four stars.

There are activities and amenities for both summer and winter, and the library has a magnificent view over Lake Siljan. The rooms are well furnished, with clean beds and toilets, plus Wi-Fi.
