Beary Best! Chinatown

The main downsides were having no elevator for heavy suitcases and the bunk beds. They're a decent size and comfortable, but they shake and make a lot of noise whenever the person above or below shifts around. Still, it's great value and very well located, with all the major Chinatown sights a 5-10 minute walk away.

The staff were great, which makes me feel bad about this review, but the place badly needs an overhaul. The beds are awful, like metal garbage coffins. You can't sit up without banging your head, and even the slightest movement makes them squeak and shake loudly. The building needs mould control. There were old mattresses left out on the balcony, absolutely disgusting, after they'd been sprayed an hour before I could check in. I work in construction and renovations, and it's clear to me that the place needs major work. With the amount of business it gets, I'd be embarrassed to own it and let it get worse. The owner obviously doesn't care about upgrading it. Some of the long-term guests were next-level nasty, sorry. They had no respect for others, picking their noses and wiping it on the walls like little children. Old, smelly clothes were hanging on the doors. It's Singapore!

The pantry was the best part, and the communal room was cozy. They have complete facilities, and for one night I think it was worth staying. I was in the female dorm for a night. Cleanliness was so-so, not bad but not great. Several long-stay guests had their belongings in the bathroom, and suitcases were everywhere. The beds were so low that I couldn't sit up straight in mine.

I used this affordable, clean hostel for a one-day transit in Singapore. The facilities were good enough for the price, and the staff were friendly. Their hotline worked great, too.
