BEAT. Capsule Hostel @ Boat Quay

I found it good value, and the location is great. The reason I'm giving three stars is the so-called mixed dorm policy. It seems to mean guys only. I heard the receptionist change a woman's selection from mixed dorm to female only. If that's how it works, the names and prices should reflect it.

The toilets were the worst part. One bath area had a flimsy door and a clothes rack hung way up high, maybe seven feet off the ground. The other showers were combined with extremely tiny toilets. We weren't given towels, and nobody showed us around. The only pluses were the water provided and the kind hosts who let us store our luggage. I'd skip this place next time. We had booked a mixed double bed space, but the booking didn't mention the two flights of steep stairs to reach the room. That made getting there with luggage really inconvenient. The room door's lock had been disabled with what seemed like jammers, so we couldn't secure our luggage inside. The upper bed was very steep, with hand bars only on the right and nothing on the left, making it strenuous to climb up. The overall experience was terrible, and I'm shocked this place has good reviews.

The kitchen smells weird, the tap leaks underneath when you use it, and things are broken and left that way. The place is filthy. As I write this, there's snot on the bathroom walls. Disgusting doesn't even cover it. Please don't stay here.

The common room has an excellent view, and the room was so calm and quiet. The capsules were really clean and neat. I'd highly recommend it for solo travellers.
