After many stays at Citadines Fusionopolis, I had my worst experience there tonight. We arrived at about 2:45 AM and followed the usual route from the B6 carpark. I pressed the intercom and bell repeatedly for nearly 20 minutes and called the hotel several times, but nobody answered. My wife had to climb the stairs to get to the lobby because the hotel lift couldn’t be used without staff assistance. The security guard on duty was outside smoking when she got there. When she explained how long we’d been trying to reach someone, he answered rudely: “Can’t you see I’m outside smoking? How do you expect me to hear anything?” He kept speaking harshly. After unlocking the lift for me, he came back and pointed at my wife, looking obviously frustrated, as if we were bothering him. The room number wasn’t written on the key card, so we asked what it was. He replied, “Can’t you see it on the invoice?” and “That’s not my job. That’s front desk. I only handle security.” This disrespect, especially towards a female guest, is unacceptable in a hospitality business. It’s shocking to see this behaviour at a property under Ascott. I hope management takes it seriously, as it reflects badly on service standards and guest safety.
I’m a Gold ASR member and stay at ASR hotels almost every week. This was by far the worst and most unprofessional service I’ve experienced. I can’t believe a four-star hotel would employ staff who treat guests this way. I checked in around 3am. After parking, I tried to take the lift to the lobby, but it was locked and needed the front desk to open it through the intercom. I pressed the intercom more than 10 times and repeatedly called the hotel, with no answer. I had to walk around the carpark to find another way out to the lobby. A staff member was standing outside smoking at the lobby entrance. When I said I’d called the intercom and hotel phone several times without an answer, he replied rudely, “I’m outside here, I won’t hear the phone or intercom.” When I asked why he was speaking to me so rudely, he said, “I’m helping you check in now, right?” During check-in he gave me a room key without the room number written on it. When I asked, he told me to write it down myself because “that’s not his job.” He said he was the night shift guard helping the front desk. The attitude was unacceptable.
The second day was especially frustrating. I had put up the “Do Not Disturb” sign, but staff entered my room anyway. I’d left the AC running while I was out to try to clear the musty smell. When I came back, the AC had been switched off, but nobody had made the bed or cleaned the room. It made no sense and was unacceptable. From the start, the room smelled strongly musty, like there was mold growing. The pillows had an unpleasant oily smell too, and the shower pressure was so weak that I couldn’t take a proper shower. For the price, both the room condition and service were unacceptable. This was the worst hotel I’ve stayed at in Singapore, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
I stopped by this evening to view a room because I was considering booking two weeks here. The front office person, who was Singaporean, had a very bad attitude and seemed uninterested. He didn’t give me clear information about the hotel. It was very different from Citadines on Science Park, where I had a better experience. This place didn’t seem bothered to help. Just go to Citadines in Science Park.
The reception team was mostly friendly and accommodating. A young Malaysian man stood out, and the young women were helpful too, apart from one Indian woman who I felt was in the wrong profession. She came across as extremely unfriendly and quite arrogant, with a condescending manner whenever we saw her. She didn’t greet us. One morning at about 8:00 a.m. I went to the gym and found no towels. I went down to reception, where she was on duty, and asked for some. She rudely said I’d have to wait until 9:00 a.m., despite two people being at reception. I told her I expected hygiene items to be available when the gym opened, especially since guests were encouraged to use them. I returned to the gym, and shortly after, a young woman kindly brought fresh towels and said good morning. My wife and I spent eight nights here, our second visit, and it may be our last. Room type really seems to make a difference. We were almost completely satisfied on the first stay, but this time we had an apartment with a harbor view and had some bad luck. A noisy neighbor kept us from sleeping until well after midnight on the weekend. There were also cockroaches throughout our stay. Housekeeping came when we told them, wiped up each one they saw, then left without checking for more or using spray.
