Code Hostel at Kampong Glam

The hostel has a safe locker with a key, there’s no deposit, and the bathroom was always clean. Other guests kept the shared space tidy and quiet. You can make your own free breakfast each day with bread and peanut butter. Hot water, Wi-Fi, and the public room all worked well. It’s right by a bus stop and a Seven Eleven. The AC felt a bit too cold for me, but that was fine. My one concern was that people from outside might be able to get into the hostel easily. The bedroom door also had no key, so anyone could enter the room. Still, this is Singapore, so I felt it was probably safe.

The beds are what I love most: private, clean, and practical, with socket plugs provided. Code Hostel is my favourite place to go when I need a little vacation. The staff are really chill and friendly, and they’re flexible about checkout if nobody else is coming the next hour or so. The location is great too. Always looking forward to coming back.

I booked the “Female only” room but was assigned to a “Family room” that was all female. Nobody told me beforehand, and it would’ve been good to know. Since random guests might be assigned to the same “Family room,” it’d also be better to have a locker in there. Even so, the rest of the stay was perfect, and I hope they keep improving because I’d love to come back. This was my first time in a hostel or capsule-style hotel, and I had a blast. The location was the best, and the building and interior were clean and new. The bed smelled good and was nice to sleep in. They offer coffee, tea, and toast for breakfast. There’s a hair dryer, but no microwave or fridge, which was fine for me.

The staff were kind, helpful, and efficient. A bus stop just a few steps away was handy, and one route took me straight to the Botanic Gardens, among other places. The hostel gave clear email instructions for self check-in if you’re arriving late, and was clean, new, and fresh. The bunks were comfortable, with thick curtains, good mattresses, and fresh-smelling linen. The powerful room AC kept things comfortable. For Singapore prices, it was good value. I paid about 30 SGD a night after booking on Agoda a month ahead for April 2025. I’d suggest putting at least a shelf inside each bunk, or a small locker if possible. The toilets were impeccably clean but always smelled, so more air fresheners could help. A fridge in the common area and an ironing board would be useful too. All in all, a very satisfactory stay.
