The modern setup is a big part of lyf Bugis Singapore's appeal. It has smart design touches and communal areas with a fresh, almost startup-like feel, rather than the usual hotel atmosphere. I also liked the well-equipped gym, which is open 24 hours. Its spot in Bugis makes getting around easy. Bugis Street, Sim Lim Square and several MRT stations are all within a comfortable walk, with the CBD, Marina Bay and Orchard easy to reach. There's plenty of shopping, cafes and restaurants in the neighborhood, so it works well as a base for a short visit or a longer trip.

"What a motel." I've stayed here for over ten years, since it was called Hotel G, and it used to be good value. After what happened today, I won't return. I checked out on 28 Jan after two nights and later realized I'd left a T-shirt on the refrigerator in my room. I was back in my country when I emailed the hotel to ask them to check. It was a gift from my wife and means a lot to me. They replied that they hadn't found anything in the room, and that was the end of it. The room is very small, with no wardrobe and little space for belongings. I suspect there's no checkout procedure for lost items: you hand in the key and leave, and with no minibar to check, the hotel apparently doesn't look for things guests have left behind. Housekeeping should report items they find, but it seems they don't care. Don't leave anything when you check out. If you do, getting it back would be a miracle.

The facilities were great, but what really made the stay was the service. Iszuaan Baharudin was professional, attentive, and went out of his way to make sure I had what I needed. I had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend the hotel.

Lyf Bugis is well equipped, with a gym, laundry room and ironing spaces on every floor. The room tap water is drinkable, and there's a hot water dispenser in each room. The rooms aren't very spacious, but that's Singapore; the bedding was clean and comfortable, and I liked the toiletries. A disposable dental kit is available from reception, and rooms are cleaned every three days, as at other Lyfs. The location is excellent, with lots of places to eat within walking distance. One thing to know is that cars can't stop on the main road, so taxis use the Level 2 drop-off by the pantry and free luggage storage. From there, you go down to Level 1 to check in. That floor is split-level and shares space with the breakfast buffet and a bar, but there's a platform for moving luggage between levels. Good value for money, and I'd be happy to return.
