M Social Hotel Singapore

We booked a staycation for Valentine’s Day and our anniversary. The booking was straightforward, and the staff kindly agreed to accept a flower delivery on our check-in day. We were upgraded to a loft for free, a nice gesture, though the staff didn’t mention it, or only mentioned it briefly, so I could take note during check-in. The room looked great and worked well, with stylish design and practical features. Breakfast had a terrific range of choices. It was worth staying here for a special break, and I’d definitely return.

The patio was a definite plus, and I found the bed comfortable and the bathroom and toilet satisfactory. Check-in went smoothly, with a very friendly and helpful duty manager at the front office. Staff could be slow at times, perhaps because of the check-in and reservation system. At departure, they seemed less attentive, and the guest experience felt less important. The room itself felt cramped, with little space between the bed and desk or chair. Lighting was too dim for me, and the desk lamp’s handle seemed damaged and hard to use. The hotel could consider asking a Japanese designer to review the layout. A sliding door between bedroom and bathroom might work better than the current setup, and changing the desk, chair arrangement or chair type could make it easier to move around.

The room was dusty enough that I had allergy symptoms throughout the stay and needed allergy pills every day. The service was just as disappointing. We came for our honeymoon feeling excited, but staff were consistently cold, unsmiling and rude in tone. At first I thought maybe one person was having a bad day, but this seemed common among several staff. I called the front desk many times over several days and nobody answered. When someone finally picked up late at night, we only needed toiletries refilled. She said the delivery system wasn’t working and told us to collect them from the lobby. We later learned it was working, so it felt like she simply didn’t want to bring the items up. Even at checkout, staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, and some explanations didn’t seem honest. I can’t understand reviews calling the staff nice, because that wasn’t our experience. Maybe it’s a difference in service culture, but if you expect a Western standard of hospitality, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Cel deserves a special thank you for being approachable, helpful and attentive. Her positive attitude and willingness to go the extra mile made us feel valued and well looked after. M Social has a chic, contemporary feel while still being cosy. Everything was clean, thoughtfully designed and well organised, which made the stay enjoyable from start to finish. I’d happily recommend it for its atmosphere and service.
