The breakfast experience overwhelmed everything good about the stay. We were sent to a windowless room, then had to get food from a huge buffet hall that felt more like a charter resort or Las Vegas hotel than a boutique property. It was crowded and chaotic, almost a competition to reach the dishes. WE DID NOT GET WHAT WE PAID FOR! If the breakfast chaos is still there next time, there’s always a Starbucks around the corner. We’d read that Paradox Hotel was a smaller chain aiming for a boutique lifestyle feel, and a lot of that was true: excellent hospitality, welcome, personality and Singapore location. We had an Executive Club room and forgot to mention my wife’s food intolerances, but the team handled them perfectly from the first evening. The gluten-free afternoon tea options were outstanding. Would I stay again? Most likely, thanks to the team’s accommodating attitude.

We love Clarke Quay, and the location is still great, but this return visit after two years was very disappointing. My family was told we’d been upgraded, then checked into what felt like a downgrade. The room was much smaller than the premium room we’d booked, and the photos didn’t match. The windows were dirty, the curtains were old and poorly maintained, and getting into the shower meant stepping over a bathtub. My mum complained after being told this was an “upgrade.” The lifts were another mess. Two of the four were out for maintenance during the busiest hours. We waited five to six minutes on our floor each day just to get to the lobby, while crowds waiting on every floor and in the lobby made it chaotic. Unfortunately this will be our last visit to Paradox, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Housekeeping kept our room spotless and refreshed it every day, and breakfast had loads of fresh, tasty choices. The staff were welcoming and professional, too. We had a wonderful stay from arrival through checkout, a 10/10 for us, and we’ll definitely come back.

I ended up buying the beautiful watch Rajesh recommended. I’d been interested in getting one but wasn’t sure which style or type to choose, and he patiently talked me through it and suggested a few reputable shops. His knowledge of watches really impressed me. Rajesh, the concierge, was warm, professional, and attentive from the start, and made us feel well looked after. We had a wonderful experience.

Breakfast was the biggest letdown. Nobody seemed to be watching the outdoor dining area, and I had to ask three different staff members before I got cutlery and ice. The stay was otherwise good, though I’m not sure we’d return. We booked the Pawcation Retreat package, which includes high tea and happy hour. High tea could be outdoors at Ellenbourough market cafe, but at check-in we were told happy hour couldn’t be there because the cafe wasn’t pet friendly. Staff suggested we sit in the lobby with our dogs in their stroller. When we came down, it was full with nowhere to sit. After discussing it with staff, we were allowed to eat outdoors, where we’d had high tea. There may have been a miscommunication among staff. For a package with these benefits, the hotel should offer options like dining in the room or outdoors with the dogs. The quick response from Izad and Jia Bao’s hospitality helped save the experience. The hotel also seems fairly new to being pet friendly.
