Santa Grand Hotel East Coast, a NuVe Group Collection

The shower never got very hot, which was my only complaint. Otherwise, the room and hotel were spotless, and the staff even helped me figure out workarounds for problems with my usual phone provider while roaming in Singapore. The price was great for what you get. It's easy to get around from here, with bus and train lines nearby. Katong has lively nightlife, too. After dark, the two outdoor restaurants just east of the hotel serve excellent food at a good price and offer a distinctive look at local dining culture for foreigners. I'll stay here again next time.

The free minibar was a great touch, and the lobby biscuits and coffee came in handy. When we realized our day-use booking wasn't making the best use of our time, the receptionist helped us consider other options. The room had what a transit guest needs, including a toothbrush, and the staff arranged a cab for our 3 a.m. departure with the same courtesy they showed when welcoming us. Both the staff and room setup felt supportive. It's not far from the airport, and I'll choose this hotel again when we return. Thank you, Santa Grand!

Everything else seemed fine, and I appreciated the complimentary minibar. On checkout day, 22 Feb 26, at around 1100 hrs, I overheard the receptionist tell an Indian guest that only bottled water was free and that minibar items would be charged. My quick check suggested the minibar was included, so I wasn't sure why she said that. I also found it odd that her tone seemed much warmer and more polite with the next guest, who appeared to be from a Western country. I'm not claiming this was racial, but the difference in her manner made me uncomfortable. It also felt unusual to have my full debit card details taken for the security deposit, since that information is sensitive. I wanted to bring these observations to your attention. The world isn't perfect, but I believe in supporting and encouraging businesses that try to do better.

Fresh aromas throughout the hotel made the atmosphere feel welcoming, uplifting, and soothing, and I left with a deep sense of peace and contentment. The rooms are charming and well appointed. Its old colonial character also brought back fond memories of the Singapore I once knew. This quiet, restful haven is a cosy gem in the heart of Katong, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful escape.
