Shipping Container Hotel @ One-North

Container4 at @tinypodhotel in One-North had a mirrored outside that gave it this cool, almost invisible look. Inside, there was a cozy kitchen, a king-size bed and a standalone bathtub. The hidden queen-size bed in the living room was a clever surprise. Such an incredible stay.

Getting around was easy from near one-north mrt, and timbre+ gave us somewhere to enjoy live music. The staff were really nice and accommodating. Inside the non-mirrored shipping container, the dining table connected to a stove and sink came in handy for warming or eating food. There were two rooms, one with a regular bed and the other with a pull-down bed, both comfortable and big enough for two. The toilet had room for a luxurious bathtub and compartments for our things. We’d recommend it for families of five or fewer.

We had a fun staycation with the kids. It’s a few minutes’ walk from One North MRT, so you don’t need to drive, and there are lots of parking spaces in the industrial area. There are plenty of food choices within five minutes on foot. The pod has two queen beds, a cool kitchen, an ensuite bathroom with a bathtub, and a big patio where you could have a mini BBQ or steamboat. Bring insect repellent if you’ll be outside or on the patio before 7pm. Snacks or drinks are handy for chilling at the study table indoors.

We spent three days and two nights in the mirror-themed shipping container. The concept is interesting and it can sleep four, though there were only two of us. Staff were patient and nice, and you can reach them on WhatsApp for help with things like the TV or Netflix. The place is in a quiet but public area without a perimeter barrier, so privacy isn’t at a normal hotel level. The curtains didn’t fully cover the glass doors, and we had to hold them together with clips from our keychains. There’s an induction stove and hood, with cooking and dining ware, dish soap, a sponge and some seasonings. We managed without a drying rack by leaving things on the counter with the cloths provided. The mattress was thick but quite hard. There’s a queen sofa bed in the main space, while the king bed is in another room with no amenities, accessed by key card, which was inconvenient. The bathroom looked nice but wasn’t very practical. You have to shower in the bathtub because there’s no separate shower area. The shower stand is in a corner, with the toilet right beside it, and the smooth cylindrical tap handle was nearly impossible to turn with soapy hands. Water leaked from the tub onto the floor, which doesn’t slope toward the drain, so it kept flooding. I had to use the squeegee from the bathroom cabinet to push the water away before it spilled into the main room. With so little ventilation, it didn’t dry over time. Opening the bathroom’s glass doors would help, but the mirrors don’t block views from higher floors of nearby office buildings, leaving us without privacy and exposed to the wildlife outside. The doors also weren’t sealed tightly, and one night a millipede crawled in. Horrifying.
