Hotel Kompas

The location is good, and the dinner and breakfast buffets were decent. Our room had a view of the castle, and getting to the rooms was easy in this newly renovated hotel. But there was a really bad smell whenever we came into the room, apparently from the sinks, though I couldn't tell whether it came from the bathroom or toilet. We were glad we only stayed one night. The wellness area is there, but we thought the sauna was included and found out it costs extra. I hope they fix the smell for future guests.

We found the hotel clean, with very good WiFi and spacious rooms that had terraces and lovely views. Breakfast was delicious, with lots of variety, and the staff were friendly and ready to help. There's also a private parking lot, and the rooms had everything we needed.

The room had nice Valentine's Day decorations, but it was too small. On the windy day we stayed, air came through gaps in the doors and blew around the room. My girlfriend also walked barefoot for half an hour and got something stuck in her foot, so the floor hadn't been cleaned properly.

The food was okay, but the rest of our three-night New Year's stay was a mess. We called before booking and were told there'd be music and dancing on New Year's Eve. A woman sang until 11 p.m. and then left, and the next group that was supposed to perform never showed. The receptionist seemed embarrassed by the chaos and couldn't find any colleagues who knew what was going on. At midnight there was no champagne, so we had to sort that out ourselves. We also lost hot water every evening and had to shower in cool water. When we wanted a massage or to use the sauna, no staff were available, including the person who was supposed to be working there. The elevator was out of order too. It felt like the employees had walked out.
