The location felt safe, and we got to know a few local people. The old town is about a 10-minute walk away, and the rest of the city is easy to reach on foot or by public transport. On our first night, we were exhausted from travelling, and the receptionist was very helpful in showing us to our room. The rooms are in a separate building from the reception, bar, and restaurant. The walls are very thin, and the next morning we woke up to building work and bin collections outside. Our room was basic but spacious. The elevator felt like it came from another era and was fun-size. The hallway lights need their timing adjusted, since they're not much use once you've come through the door or walked up the stairs, lol. We had a fridge in the room, which was a nice change from other hotels, and a much-needed fan for the hot weather. The room was cleaned only once during our week-long stay, and more frequent cleaning and daily towels would've been nice. Breakfast was the usual continental fare, but there are plenty of nicer options nearby, so I'd skip it. Our complaints are a bit nitpicky, and we'd stay here again, just without having breakfast.

Getting around was easy, with a bus stop right nearby, trams a short walk away, and the lively town just a few minutes on foot. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, from the front desk sorting out what we needed to the people looking after the rooms. It really ticked every box for us, and I’d happily stay again when I’m back in Bratislava.

Finding the place took us a while because it wasn’t clearly marked, and the elevator wasn’t working, so we had to carry our bags up to the second floor. The location is good, about five minutes from the main square. The room felt too small, there was just one face towel for two people, no shower gel, and no outlets by the bed.

We paid €110 for one night and it really wasn’t worth it. The breakfast was a tiny buffet, with dishes that smelled of egg and oily cups and cutlery that smelled too. They hadn’t changed the tablecloth between guests, so we ate beside honey left by the previous person. Hygiene was the main issue: there were three long hairs in our towels, and the shower floor was dirty and slimy with shampoo residue, with mould as well. We were two people but had just one face towel, and the bathroom had shampoo only, no shower gel or conditioner. The room itself was only moderate, and there was just one outlet, hidden behind furniture we had to move. That meant we couldn’t use a fan and laptop at the same time.

We ended up cancelling and paying a cancellation fee of over €50, then booking somewhere else. More than a day before check-in, my friend learned that her friend had just split up with her boyfriend and had nowhere to sleep. She didn’t want to leave her alone, so my girlfriend wanted to bring her along. Since Petit Dependance had no double room left and couldn’t add a bed, I asked them to cancel our booking without the fee so we could find a room for two. I explained everything, and check-in was still over 24 hours away, but they simply refused. It felt like they had no interest in understanding our situation. There are plenty of places in Bratislava run by more understanding and generous people, and I’d rather give my money to one of them.
