Business Hotel Astrum Laus

After staying here three times, I don’t share the high ratings. The place feels impersonal, and not particularly classy, though that seems to have been the aim. Room comfort can be a problem too: sometimes it’s too hot or the air feels poor, and there’s no good way to adjust it. The rooms are generally quite large, the beds are decent, and the bathrooms are good, though unfortunately the showers have no thermostats. The hotel feels built for three times as many guests as it usually has, so it can seem empty and sad. There’s a bar, but it’s never been open when I’ve stayed. The breakfast room and restaurant are large, but the breakfast is mediocre. It’s good they try not to waste food, but at these prices I’d expect more. Staff are friendly yet seem uninterested, almost depressed, and check-in takes a long time with all the paperwork. The last time, I had to switch rooms or pay extra after I’d already settled in. The hotel had made a mistake: my room had a balcony I didn’t need in winter, and apparently I’d paid for one without it. The gym is great, but opening at 8 means I can’t use it in the morning if I need to get to work at a reasonable hour. I think it closes at 10 pm. If you haven’t tried the Golden Eagle hotel, I’d suggest it. It’s only a hundred meters away and much better. I’d only recommend this place if you feel like wasting money and the Golden Eagle has no rooms left.
