It’s a budget-friendly spot if you want to be near the station, about a five-minute walk, with trains from there to Lomnica and Smokoviec in the High Tatra mountains. The city center is a different story, so it won’t suit you if you want to stay there. Rooms are simple but warm and well equipped, with comfortable beds, large toilets, a small fridge, kettle, table, chairs, and TV. The main downside is Valkyria club next door, with music audible late at night, so earplugs are a good idea. Check-in felt a bit strange when the owner disappeared with my ID for a few minutes, which surprised me. His wife speaks Russian very well, so communication was easy, while the owner speaks only Slovak. The cleaning lady was super friendly and helpful, though she doesn’t speak English, so ask her if you need anything. Take care when booking, as it looks like they’ve changed prices recently.

There’s no AC, but the rooms were mostly clean. The older man at reception was adorable and let us into our room well before the 14:00 check-in time. A rude guy works in the hotel restaurant. There’s also a small shared kitchen for guests, though we didn’t use it.

The owners are older and have some language difficulties, but I didn’t find that a real problem if you’re open-minded. The railway station is nearby, and there were no trains at night. Guests can use a kitchen and fridge. Everything else was really good: the rooms were clean, and I don’t really understand why Slavia has such a bad rating. Be ready to pay by cash.

The worst part was the noise at night. The train and pub downstairs made it unbearable, with people singing and shouting nonstop until 4am. I stayed put only because I had just two nights there. The pension itself is very old, and while the room wasn’t too bad, the stay was really uncomfortable. I’m sure you can find somewhere better for the same money.

The room was tidy and really comfortable, and the staff were kind and helpful. The penzion is great, with the center about five minutes away. I’d definitely come back to enjoy Slovakia again.
