A7 Hidden Hostel

For 350 THB at a hostel, you get clean rooms, good bathrooms and a nice lounge to chill in. It's in a good spot next to the sky train. I walked right past it at first and didn't notice the place, and was met by someone people working in the hospitality industry.

It's a clean, open place, but it's up on the rooftop, so the common room gets extremely hot in summer. Could be nice for backpackers who don't mind sharing a bathroom with other guests, men and women using the same one.

The place is clean and nice. BTS Nana Station is just a block away, so getting around Bangkok is easy. Lots of places nearby, including nightlife.

FIRE RISK, DEATH TRAP!!! The hostel sits on the roof of the Atlas Hotel in Soi 7/1 Sukhumvit, at SEVENTH FLOOR level. The hotel itself is six storeys tall, and the hostel has been added above its original roof. I believe the building is completely unsafe. There are no fire or smoke detectors, not even a fire alarm, and only one way out: a WOODEN, combustible staircase. The fire extinguishers are ancient and unchecked. The one on my floor was 21 years out of date!! The location also can't be reached by fire engine ladder units, so in a fire everyone would probably die inside or on the roof. Neither the hotel nor the hostel built on top of it complies with any form of fire standard. This could become one of those awful tragedies that should never have been allowed to happen. Thai Authorities should shut the hotel and hostel down immediately until an authoritative professional fire safety review is completed and its recommendations are put into effect. I was staying in the hotel, but it's the same building as the hostel.
