Asia Hotel Bangkok

Being directly connected to Ratchathewi BTS made getting around easy, and despite the busy road outside, the hotel had excellent soundproofing. Our room was spacious and clean, a bit retro in style. The shower had strong pressure, the AC was quiet and set to a comfortable temperature, and there are plenty of elevators, so we rarely waited despite all the floors. When the safe acted up a couple of times, staff came right away to fix it. There weren't enough charging outlets, and my adapter wouldn't stay put, so I had to prop it up with a chair. The reception area has been renovated and is huge. The pools looked nice, though we didn't use them, and we didn't pay for breakfast. Taxis took a while during peak hours because the road outside is so busy. I'd definitely stay again.

This was my second visit, after staying here in 2019 before the renovation. Some things have improved, like the lobby, which now has a chandelier and looks much nicer than when it was a restaurant. There's a handy guest-only shortcut to 7-Eleven beside reception, which I didn't spot until my second day. You can still reach the BTS on the second floor by taking the elevator near Rio restaurant, even though that floor is being renovated. The hotel still feels old, though, and is only okay overall. My room was nice and the toiletries were acceptable, but the old fridge had mold inside. The toilet needed around five flushes to work properly. There was no iron, which I found unusual for a hotel, and breakfast choices were limited and repetitive. They now ask for a 2,000 THB deposit and accept only THB cash or credit card, no USD. Renovation has helped, but maintenance still needs work.

We felt ignored and disrespected during our night visit to the front desk. The staff were rude, dismissive, and unwilling to help with even simple questions. Basic courtesy and patience were missing. The manager on duty was just as unprofessional. Instead of improving the situation, they handled it poorly and made no effort to take responsibility or find a solution. After a long day of travel, I expect some support and courtesy from hotel staff, especially management, and we didn't get that here. Based on this, I wouldn't recommend the hotel. There are plenty of places where guests are treated with respect.

The location is convenient, and I really appreciated the two swimming pools, which were clean and refreshing. The gym was good and well maintained too. The entrance looks grand and gives a luxurious first impression, but the rooms didn't match it. They smelled musty and shut-in, and felt old, damp, and worn. The condition of the rooms dragged down the stay enough that I wouldn't choose to come back, despite the good facilities and location.
