The biggest draw at First House Bangkok is how much is right nearby. There are food stalls, little shops, a market and a 7-Eleven downstairs, and December Mall and Platinum Mall are about a five-minute walk away. On weekends the hotel also runs a free shuttle to Chatuchak, around 10:30am and 12:30pm, if I remember right. This is a basic budget place, so I wouldn’t come expecting comfort or luxury. There’s no bathtub, and the shower curtain is all that separates the wet and dry parts of the bathroom. I booked a double room without a window. Check the photos closely when choosing a room: the pricier double looked more luxurious in its pictures, but it was actually smaller, so I didn’t think the extra cost was worth it. My latest stay started with a leaking air conditioner. We went down around 8am the next morning and were allowed to change rooms, though the process meant checking out and back in. The service left a worse impression. One staff member, maybe a manager because he wore a darker uniform, seemed to say no to everything without trying to help. My earlier visits had been different. The location is still great, but I’ll probably try another hotel next time.

We were there for five days. On day three I asked for the room to be cleaned, and when we returned everything seemed fine and nothing was missing. The next day I hadn’t requested cleaning, but someone had cleaned the whole room anyway. I figured there’d been a misunderstanding and they thought I wanted daily service. My bags looked okay, but then I noticed some of the things we’d bought were gone, including my set of inhalers.

The room had an unpleasant smell and the toilet wasn’t clean. From our first day, the receptionist and one of the bellboys, the shortest one, were rude and unwelcoming. They also kept my 1,000 THB deposit without giving me any clear reason. This stay really spoiled our time in Bangkok. Worst hotel I’ve stayed at, by far.

A 7-Eleven is right in front, which is handy. The lift is kind of small, and noise carries between rooms. Getting around by public transport as your main option could be inconvenient since the location is a bit far. Not too bad overall.

The receptionist was rude, unfriendly and impolite, and the service was poor. At check-in they asked for a BHT 2,000 deposit. I hesitated, but they promised to return it at checkout. Instead they refused, saying there was one extra guest and charging an additional extra bed fee for a child under 12. The fee didn’t match the price list, and they still insisted on keeping the BHT 2,000. I’ve never been charged for an extra bed for a child at hotels in other countries, only at this First Hotel. The elevator and room were very narrow, even though we’d booked the biggest room. Breakfast was bad, and there was nowhere to stop and unload luggage. We were honked at as soon as we took bags out of the van for a moment and blocked the road. This was my first stay here and I won’t come back. A very bad hotel in Bangkok.
