Home Base Hostel - Adults Only

The hostel is down a hidden street, far from restaurants and main spots. I reserved a mixed dorm on the 2nd floor but was put in a female dorm on the 3rd floor, which was a hassle with all my baggage. Check-in required a 200 baht key deposit, which was fine, but the owner or receptionist always had a poker face. Only four beds in my room were occupied, and I think I know why tourists don’t come here. My bedsheet was torn and a bit smelly, so I suspect it hadn’t been changed. The light by my bed didn’t work, leaving the room dark. The owner only turns on the air conditioner at night and switches it off in the morning, which I found unacceptable in the heat. I hope they make repairs and do some maintenance, or the place may close permanently soon. I’d never return. The place and receptionist were no good.

I stayed for a week and paid night by night, and there was always space. The female dorm was cheaper if you paid there without an online booking, 180 rather than 202. It’s on a quiet road with hotels and restaurants, and there’s a washing machine and dryer. Coffee, hot water, and cold water are free in the morning. A 7 eleven and the market are nearby, and Nana road is a 15-minute walk away.

I booked through Agoda and messaged the Hostel on Wattapp to ask when checkout was. The person replying didn’t speak English and was extremely rude, so I had to puzzle out the messages. When I arrived the next day, the receptionist wouldn’t even look at me. I showed my booking confirmation, but she said she didn’t want to let me into the hostel. I spent 30 minutes trying to explain I had nowhere else to go that night and that other places were booked. She said it wasn’t her problem and told me to get lost. She also made a cliché comment about white tourists. Tourists are treated poorly here, and I don’t think this hostel is made for them. Run away!

The bed was hard, though not the worst I’ve had. I stayed two nights in a private room with a shared bathroom, and it was very noisy. The water pump kept switching on and off all night. Pigeons on the metal-sheet roof made it echo, and a nearby chicken coop meant lots of roosters. You can’t stay at the hostel after checkout, which was inconvenient since our bus was at 9:00 PM. Leaving our bags for the day costs 200 baht. There are rules posted everywhere, and I don’t think the price is justified.
