Khaosan Holiday

I had a great experience at Khaosan Holiday and will definitely visit again. The bed was the comfiest, and the room felt cosy. I booked a superior room, which was spacious compared with the cheaper rooms, and it came with a refrigerator, TV, and hairdryer. You can hear music from the bars outside the alley at night, but it was still tolerable and not too loud. Breakfast would have been nice, though it wasn’t a problem since lots of cafes along the road open early. Convenience stores are within walking distance too.

The location made getting around really easy, and the stay itself was comfortable, though not amazing. The deposit for the room key was the problem: they asked for $50 for one room. That’s a lot. 500 baht would’ve felt reasonable. They do give it back, but if you’re short on spare cash, you may want to find somewhere cheaper. Check in advance whether a hotel requires a deposit.

We paid AUD36 for one night, and it wasn’t worth it. The room didn’t look like the photos on the website, and even the pictures I took make it look better than it was. There was dirty water in the fridge. The toilet area smelled awful and wasn’t clean either. The window looked out onto a tiny gap between walls, full of cigarette butts and empty bottles, so I couldn’t see the point of it. Thank goodness we only stayed one night.

I checked out a day early and they wouldn’t refund me. The music from Khaosan was absurdly loud in the room, and nobody had warned me about it. The room was much smaller than I expected for a hotel at this price. Some things are understandable in a cheap hostel in Thailand, but I expected better here. There wasn’t any hand soap, so I asked for some and insisted it should be there. They still wouldn’t provide or retrieve any. The customer service was, in my opinion, nonexistent.
