After busy days walking around Bangkok in the heat, it was lovely to unwind in the hotel's shared spaces. La Loy Long felt like an oasis both at the start and end of each day. We especially enjoyed the Black Room, with its river view and balcony. There’s always something happening on the water, with transport moving along the river all day, though you may want earplugs at night because boats use it then too. Breakfast was wonderful, with lots of variety, including daily miso soup and fresh fruit. We were also happy to find a wide selection of Thai dishes for dinner. The staff were so kind, friendly, and helpful, and the house is full of paintings and other artistic objects. The location worked well for us: Song Wad Road is a five-minute walk, Chinatown is about ten minutes away, and so is the metro. We had a fabulous time here, and it was well worth the visit.

Our two nights in the Blue Room upstairs were lovely, and we wished we could have stayed longer. The river view from the room was beautiful, and sitting on the upstairs balcony over breakfast to watch the boats go by was great. In the evening, we had tasty food and excellent cocktails from the kitchen while lit-up cruise boats passed. You can hear the water lap when larger boats and barges go past. The staff were welcoming and very friendly, and the location was handy for exploring. Loy La Long is a distinctive boutique hotel, and staying there really feels like being on the river. During high tides in October and November, water may come into the hotel entrance in the morning. It didn't affect the rest of the hotel or the upstairs rooms, and it made the place feel even more unique to us. Thank you!

Coming back here after a long day in Bangkok felt like returning to a sanctuary. We stayed in the Black Room, with its own patio on the river, and found the setting romantic, peaceful, and unlike anywhere else. Breakfast was delicious each morning, and the staff were lovely. The location is excellent for Song Wat, Talat Noi, and Chinatown. Loy La Long is one of my favorite places I’ve stayed on my travels, and I’d absolutely recommend it.

The hotel is right over the water, and it’s an incredible place to stay. Lots of tourist spots are an easy walk away. The staff were kind and accommodating, the beds were comfortable, and breakfast was delicious. We could hear the people next door through the fairly thin walls, though.

I’ve stayed in dozens of Bangkok hotels over the years, and most feel pretty much the same. This one is unusual: the old teak building, about 100 years old and a hotel since around 2012, stands on concrete posts over the river. There are only a few rooms, six I think, plus a couple of common areas facing the water. You can hear it lapping against the bank beneath the floor, so staying here has a bit of a boat feeling without actually being on one. Even the wardrobe has life jackets instead of the usual slippers and bathrobes. There’s just a small kitchen rather than a full restaurant, and you need to order breakfast a day ahead. Options include Western or Asian breakfast, or fruit and yoghurt. The staff are very pleasant. The hotel flooded in 2023, and heavy, prolonged rain could pose a risk because it’s so close to the river. If you’re after the very highest level of luxury and comfort, this may not be for you. But if you want somewhere quirky and different, I don’t know another place quite like it.
