The building is beautiful, especially the dining room, and the staff were kind. I chose the place for its charming architecture, though it might have worked better as a retro house tour and cafe. For a four-star hotel, the upkeep and cleaning need to be much better. It didn’t feel worth what I paid. The floors were already dirty when we checked in, and I kept stepping on bits of debris barefoot. Mosquitoes were in the room even though we never opened the balcony door. I spent time swatting them, but the one or two I missed fed on us all night. At first the room smelled pleasant because candles were burning and staff had sprayed it. Once that wore off, there was a clear urine smell in the bedroom. I wondered if it came from the orchids, but the bathroom had the same flowers and no such smell. It bothered me all night. The linens and robes also didn’t seem or feel fresh, more like they’d been washed weeks earlier and left out, which seemed odd during high season when the rooms are always booked. The shower knob that switches heads came off while we were showering and sprayed water everywhere. After turning the water off to put it back, I saw it seemed to be held together with rubber bands and glue.

The staff and owners were so welcoming and helpful throughout our four days, the start of our Thailand honeymoon. We’ll absolutely stay at AriyaSom Villa again when we return to Bangkok. We picked it for the idea of a quiet oasis in busy Bangkok, and it really was peaceful. The trees seemed to block the city noise, while the lush grounds had birds singing. Our room was comfortable and beautifully decorated, with a lovely garden and pool view. The refreshing pool was perfect for a midday break. Breakfast was included and tasty, especially the fresh fruit juice and strong, delicious coffee. Getting around was easy, with the SkyTrain a short walk away and Phloen Chit station closest. There’s also a canal right by the hotel with a very cheap, fun boat taxi. It isn’t a touristy way to travel, so asking the staff for tips may help. A local friend first showed us how to use it, and once we got the hang of it, it became our favorite way to get around. Thanks for a fantastic stay!

We loved the old-timey feel, all the greenery, the lovely pool, and the wonderful staff. The hotel sits at the end of a street, so it feels private, yet Nana Nua pier is an easy walk for catching a ferry. Havana Club and other fun bars are walkable too. Our room had lotion and scented spray that I absolutely loved, plus robes and slippers. There was complimentary bottled water, fruit, coffee and tea, toiletries, and a full breakfast each morning. We ate breakfast there twice, and the food was delicious. The owner makes the jam at home. If you like blue cheese, the one on the cheese board is SO good. I also had probably the best miso soup I’ve ever tried. Wish we’d had dinner there too. Thanks so much for the hospitality, I’d highly recommend staying here.

We chose this place because my wife has acrophobia, and we specifically wanted a ground-floor room instead of a five-star hotel with an infinity pool. That made the setting ideal for us. It’s a relaxed, unpretentious little hotel. The room was clean, bug-free, and big enough for a four-star place, with a fairly large bathroom and a small terrace. There were some mosquitoes outside around the terrace and pool, and the hotel provides repellent free of charge. The garden and pool were lovely for unwinding after a Bangkok tour. Service was friendly, capable, and helpful. Within a few hours they arranged a private Bangkok tour for us with a limo and guide. The bar stays open until midnight, and we had a very good curry for lunch in the restaurant. The hotel is beside a hospital, but we didn’t hear any related noise. Taxis to and from it can take some time because the street is narrow and passes through the hospital complex.

The staff were particularly good, and the old house and grounds make a thoughtfully designed oasis. Being at the end of a small street keeps things quiet, though it can be a drawback when trying to get a taxi. Our room’s design let the place down. The en-suite borrows light through internal windows, which is clever, but at night corridor light pours in. Loose cobbles on the bathroom floor also didn’t feel safe. We had a connecting room, and the sound insulation was awful. The people next door, probably just arrived from Europe, had loud phone alerts starting at 2am and going until morning. On the plus side, the Eggs Benedict was superb, and we enjoyed a good dinner there one night.
