You can get a twin room for 400 Baht without air conditioning or a bathroom, and adding a bathroom costs just 50 Baht more. Prices are fair, and Khao San is only about three minutes away, so it's a handy base for the tourist center. Some guests stay noisy until early morning, and it can take two or three tries before they respect your need to sleep. The third floor is quieter than the fourth. Staff were mixed for me: the Thai girls and women could be moody and sometimes just give orders, while the Myanmar people were always friendly.

I paid 450 Baht for a night in a decent-sized fan room with a private bathroom. It was fine, but the heat made it feel sticky, so we switched to an air-conditioned place the next day. There's a 200 Baht key deposit. Keep the receipt so you can get it back at checkout.

The price is the cheapest, and the room is somewhere between not very clean and not actually dirty. They don't provide soap, shampoo, or a blanket.

The family working there greeted me with smiles throughout my week-long stay. I don't know what the other reviews meant about rudeness. For around 200 Baht a night, I had a private room right in central Bangkok. It's very basic, but at that price I wasn't bothered. A decent budget option if you're okay with a rough location.
