Sam's Lodge Hotel

The rooms aren’t spacious and look well-aged, but they’re clean, with comfortable beds and more than adequate bedding. The bathrooms are good, with hot water, a western-style toilet, and no apparent water-pressure problems. Power points seem to be earthed, which matters for safely using some electrical items. There’s a lift, useful when you have luggage, and the front desk staff speak adequate English. I can’t comment on other languages. The location is priceless. The hotel is in a building on soi 19, about 100 metres from Sukhumvit road, with its entrance in a sub-soi. Asok BTS and Sukhumwit MRT are very close, with train stations a 2-3 minute walk away and taxis passing nearly all the time. Almost anything a person might reasonably want in Bangkok is nearby. The reception desk is on the second floor, and the rates are very reasonable. Would I stay again? Without a doubt, YES.

I booked here twice, 15 days apart, because the location is excellent. On my second visit I found out I’d been misled on the first: there was no safety box in the room, and the actual rooms were much smaller than the Agoda photos. I had nowhere to put my suitcase, and the cupboard couldn’t fit a 20 litre capacity suitcase. The bathrooms are much bigger than in a normal hotel, which is one good thing, but after that experience I doubt it was value for money. It’s poorly managed too, with broken bathroom doors and broken air conditioning.

The best thing about Sam's lodge is the location, close to sky train and metro stops, so it’s easy to get around Bangkok. It’s on a quiet road with little noise. Rooms are small and not in the best condition, but okay. Wi-fi didn’t work in my room at all during my 6 days. Cleaning gets 8/10 and service 9/10. I could visit Sam's lodge again.

You’ll find all the things you need right on the doorstep, and getting around Bangkok is easy. The nearest local train station is about 200 meters away. I visited Thailand recently and booked a stay at Sam's Lodge, a small hotel cum guest house right in the centre of Sukhumvit Soi 19. The staff were helpful and spoke enough English. A nice place to stay in Bangkok.
