Suda Palace Hotel

The people working here really made the stay. Every one of them was accommodating, even though I don’t speak Thai. The room service staff were considerate and kind, and the front desk was always staffed with smiling people. The building itself is classy, and the price feels very reasonable for the quality and this area. If you’re coming here, I’d stay at this place. 10/10, five stars.

The staff were so kind and helpful that I’d give the service a 5. The foyer is still beautiful, and it’s easy to imagine how magnificent the hotel must have been in its day. My room was immaculately clean, but it felt tired and very run down.

I arrived in Bangkok to find that the hotel said my Agoda booking wasn’t confirmed, even though I had the confirmation email. They claimed there’d been a booking mistake and tried to charge me ten times the original price. The staff were unhelpful and cheeky, and I felt powerless to sort it out. I was angry about what they said and did, and the whole thing was incredibly upsetting on my first day in the city. After I’d calmed down, I understood why they work in this ghost hotel. I also spoke with a few other guests who said they’d had the same experience. Be cautious if booking through Agoda or another platform, keep your confirmations, and be ready to contact customer support. I hope Agoda and other travel agencies address this unfair practice so other travelers don’t go through the same thing.

I stayed here in January 2017 after booking on Booking.com, and paid cash at the desk, around 700 or 800 baht. I can’t remember the exact price, but it was cheap. The hotel must have been luxurious in the 90s, like a palace, though the infrastructure is old now. The elevator, for example, is so small that only three people can stand in it. The staff were extremely helpful. Even at that low price, the lobby boy carried all my luggage to the room. I asked the desk to wake me at 5:00 am and order a taxi to DMK airport, and they did it perfectly. The lobby boy even loaded my luggage into the taxi. I regret that I forgot to tip him when I left. If you need a transfer hotel for DMK, this is a good option. A taxi pre-ordered at the desk costs less than 200 baht. It’s not far from the sky train, and it’s very close to Big C supermarket and the local fresh market.
