The Mellow at Silom

The apartment looked much worse than the photos: everything was old, worn, and stained. There was visible mold in the bathroom, and one bed had dirty sheets. From the moment we entered, every room smelled strongly of chemicals mixed with mold. The odor was suffocating and gave us headaches and dizziness. Ventilating for days made no difference. It had soaked into the furniture and curtains, and even our clothes still smelled when we got home. We thought the chemicals might have been used for pest control, since cockroaches started appearing after the second or third day. We reported it to the host, who came to “fix” things by airing out the apartment and spraying air freshener. Later they suggested more air freshener, then stopped responding after our second message. This was one of the worst travel experiences we’ve had. I’d advise people to avoid this place until it’s fully renovated and professionally deep cleaned.

This Bangkok house has loads of character and is definitely an unusual place to stay. It was clean and comfortable, with everything we needed, and the location was convenient. The atmosphere made it feel special. I had a great time and would highly recommend it if you want somewhere memorable and a bit different.

There’s a lot of stair climbing in this clean, nice place. The layout goes like this: level 1 has the dining and living area, a small kitchen, and a toilet. Level 2 has two bedrooms and a toilet. Levels 3 and 4 each have one large bedroom and a toilet. Level 5 has one bedroom and a balcony.

It’s a converted shoplot with four bedrooms spread over four storeys, right in the centre and close to lots of amenities. The build and comfort are only mediocre, so it suits people who just need a quick rest between getting around Bangkok. I wouldn’t recommend it for families with young children.
