X9 Hostel

I expected more after reading the reviews, and wasn’t impressed. It’s clean, well located, and has what you need, but that’s about it. The place is practical rather than particularly attractive, and already a little run down. When I stayed, it didn’t have much of a lively hostel feel. I found better places in Bangkok.

The hostel is centrally located, under a 10-minute walk from Central Rama 9 Shopping center and about 12 minutes on foot from Rama 9 Hospital. The location is great for the reasonable price. I liked the living room and kitchen. You can use the plates and bowls, just clean up after yourself each time, which seems fair. There’s a fridge for food, with a marker to write your name on it. I ordered a pack of water to my room, which saved me the effort of carrying it from the shopping mall. My Deluxe room for two was nice, with a private bathroom, AC, and hairdryer. The staff member was very nice and gave me all the information I needed, probably because I can speak Thai. She suggested downloading the “Grab” application.

The shared kitchen and fridge were nice, and there was free water, coffee, and tea. I met a few people during my stay, and they were all nice. I was worried about sharing a bathroom, but it was fine. There are two large, clean bathrooms, plus a public one in the lobby, with about 7 toilets and 6 showers in total. The bed was nice, with private curtains and lockers for valuables. Please use the lockers, since all kinds of people stay here.

As a female traveller, I’d recommend this place. The neighborhood felt very safe, and public transport, night markets, and convenience stores were easy to reach. It was my first hostel stay, and I visited in July. It was very quiet, just the way I like it. The staff were friendly and hospitable, and the rooms were clean, neat, and well looked after. My favorite part was the open kitchen, where guests could help themselves to fresh complimentary bread and jam each morning.
