We found bedbugs in our room and left the hotel, which meant paying extra for another room. We’d booked a slow boat from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang, and if you’re unlucky, they let you sleep at "portside." The next day we saw another girl from the group with lots of bedbug bites, so we felt lucky to have left. The owner also tries to rip people off with exchange rates, claiming there’s no ATM for Lao kips. There actually IS a working ATM directly at the Lao border, next to the visa on arrival counter, even on Saturday, so don’t believe what he says.

For a backpacker, the place was fine, and the owner was nice. He gave us the right directions for what to do until we reached our place, and I salute them for that. They can also change money, so you don’t need to worry while traveling to Luang Prabang. But I didn’t sleep well because of the bedbugs at night. They bit me and sucked my blood overnight.

The breakfast was terrible. When I exchanged money at the hotel for my Laos visa, the guy tried to give me a really bad deal. He claimed there was no exchange service at the border, but there clearly was, and the rate there was much, much better.

This is a one-night stop at most, so don't expect much from the hotel. If you're crossing into Laos, it costs $35 US and you'll need a photo. There are ATMs and an official bank exchange at the border and just beyond it, so don't change money at the hotel.

We were moved between three different rooms, and found bedbugs in every one. We were there as part of a tour to LP, so we spent the night at a different hotel.
