I was very disappointed by the male receptionist and felt he treated people differently because of race. At check-in, I was waiting alongside two white guests. He was cold and unsmiling with me, simply telling me to check in. When he turned to them, he smiled widely and apologized for keeping them waiting. While explaining the rules, he kept looking at them and smiling; when speaking to me, his face stayed blank and cold. A few days later, I asked to switch beds. He could have politely said no and explained why, but instead he gave a disrespectful laugh and lied to brush me off. I told him his manner was disrespectful and reminded him what had happened at check-in. He said, “thank you for letting me know,” then much later added “sorry.” Nothing changed. Days after that, I smiled and said hello, and he ignored me again, acting cold and proud. It made me even sadder that he's Asian too, yet behaved this way toward Asian guests. Also, if you're sensitive to laundry detergent, be careful. The detergent caused me an allergic reaction, so I had to stop using their towels and blankets. If you're Asian and want a nice trip, think carefully before staying here. He was the least friendly Thai person I met in Thailand, and I feel very disappointed.

The location made it easy to get around both inside the city walls and just outside them, and nights were quiet and comfortable. Renting a scooter is a good way to explore further. Breakfast was included, with tea or coffee, orange juice, cereal, milk, bread, butter, marmalade, and a choice of fried or scrambled eggs with sausage. There wasn't a vegetarian option. We were pleasantly surprised by the value. The room was larger than it looked, with a very good bathroom, effective air-conditioning, an air purifier, a small fridge for water, and a desk for anyone needing to do homework. There's also a TV, though we didn't use it. The curtains nearly block out all light, which was unusual and great for light sleepers.

We planned on four nights but added another because we felt comfortable and wanted more time to enjoy the city and surroundings. The room was a good size and looked even better in person than in the photo. It had the things we needed, including air-conditioning, a comfortable bed and pillows, a fridge, and some space. The bathroom was really big and comfortable. The included breakfast was a good size. It's close to town, though renting a scooter is the way to explore. My only small downside was the cool-colored lighting. I find 2500/2700K lights make a room feel cozier, but that's just my preference.

I liked how calm the hostel was. It isn't a place for parties or wild nights, which suited me well. The staff were friendly and always willing to help, and you could have coffee or tea whenever you wanted. Breakfast was okay, and it was a plus that it was there. Everything was clean and tidy, the rooms were spacious with plenty of fresh air, and the beds were very comfortable. They weren't too hard, which matters to me because beds in many places in Thailand are very hard. The bathroom was one of the best I've come across in a hostel.

At 280 bath, this is a really good deal in Chiang Mai. The room was roomy, clean, and well organized, with excellent air-conditioning, though make sure you don't set it too cold. I didn't have breakfast, but I would have liked a good smoothie bowl and an earlier start, around 7:30 AM. There were so many keys that it was hard to tell which one I needed, so that could be improved.
