Chiang Mai Tree Hostel

I paid about 321 baht a night, and the value for the money was good enough that I extended my stay several times. The woman running the hotel is really sweet, and there are several of her cats around the property. I enjoyed spending time with both her and the cats. Restaurants are a short walk away, and a 20 baht Grab ride gets you to attractions in the old city. There’s also refillable drinking water. The bed had clean sheets and towels, the hot shower didn’t randomly cut out, the fridge was useful, and the AC worked great. The furniture is outdated, and noisy neighbors could be a problem since the rooms aren’t soundproof. The mattress is hard, but that didn’t bother me.

I booked a single room with a single bed, but was given a double bed. The mattress had a dip in it that really hurt my back, and the room smelled of paint. It was on the first floor beside the hallway, where I kept hearing motorbikes park and doors open. Booking this room was a very bad experience.

The pictures don’t match the place, and the fridge smelled bad. It was noisy because the airport is nearby, though staying near it was our own choice. It would’ve been nice if the owner greeted people with even a small smile. It’s an okay place for a few nights.

We booked three nights through Agoda and received all the necessary confirmations. But when we arrived this afternoon, the woman there said the hostel was full and wouldn’t do anything to help. She didn’t speak any English. With everything already booked for the Loy Krathong festival, we had to book a very expensive hotel instead. Zero stars for the service.
