We paid about 550, which felt far too much for this place. I’d put it at 250-300 at most. The rustic hut-style room had ripped lino, thin walls and noise from the busy road outside. The outside bathrooms were questionable, and I wasn’t sure the bedding was clean. At least the bed was comfortable, unlike many hard Thai beds, though the duvet had no cover. There’s a kitchen if you need one, but it’s a long walk to the old city. We went out to a funky local Thai bar and had fun for a few hours, partly because we didn’t want to spend longer in the room than necessary. The next night we paid 500 elsewhere for an inside bathroom, a comfortable bed, AC and a balcony. I’d only stay here as a very last resort.

The owner was sweet and gave us helpful advice when we were deciding what to do. We could rent his scooter to explore, too. We’ll be back!

The garden was pleasant and the price was low. One worker was friendly, though another just stared at us and barely spoke. The room itself was cramped and ugly, with lots of mosquitoes, and the bathroom was in poor shape and nasty. Thin walls meant we could hear everything outside, and the location isn’t very central. The online pictures don’t match the room in real life. I’m usually not fussy as long as a hotel isn’t disgusting, but this place came close. We stayed only a few hours before moving to another hotel. If you’re out of money or options, it may do, but otherwise I’d look elsewhere.

I was shocked by the condition of the whole place. The Indian owner was polite and nice, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I’ve seen few accommodations this bad. The negative reviews seem justified, and for around 800 Bhat or less you can find a nice room in the middle of the city near the markets. Better to sleep on a park bench, honestly. I paid 499 Bhat for one night, and even that felt like 499 too much. I could have spent it on good food. I checked out within 30 minutes of arrival, having never before left somewhere I’d booked so quickly. As soon as I saw the mud-hut room, I booked a ride back into town to find another hotel. The guesthouse feels far from everything. Don’t trust the online pictures: the rooms, toilets and showers, hallway and lobby were pitch black unless the lights were on, and still very dark even then. Mosquitoes swarmed through the old cottage-like wooden shack, which seemed unlivable and rundown. They had mosquito spray, but it seemed toxic to breathe in while sleeping. The tiny toilet and shower rooms weren’t very clean. My room smelled musty, though I couldn’t tell if it was mold, and the covers didn’t look clean. There was no towel, soap, toothpaste, shower gel or slippers. Instead of room keys, they use large, heavy padlocks. It felt like a farmhouse. Edit: Looking at the five-star reviews, a few seem to have been written by the owner using different accounts. The feedback is so bad that they’ve started writing positive reviews for themselves, yikes.

Amin, who owns the guesthouse, was one of the warmest, friendliest hosts I’ve met. The shared space was relaxing, and my room was comfortable and cozy. It was easy to get where I needed to go, and everything was clean and well looked after. A genuinely good stay for the money.
