Tapae Place Hotel Chiangmai

For the price, I was very happy with this hotel. The location is really good, and the pool was clean and handy. You can pay for breakfast each day at reception. It’s nothing special, but it’s very cheap and more than enough.

I ended up staying 10 extra days to recover after a bike accident, and the staff were very caring while I rested. Room 401 was spacious and clean, the AC worked well, and there was a fridge and a stunning view. Breakfast for 90 baht was good and reasonably priced. The hotel is a good 3-star place and the price is great. It’s been my home for those 10 days and was perfect for that. The location is excellent too, about a 5-minute walk to TAEPAE Gate.

The room had an AC leak when I checked in, but luckily I spotted it as soon as I entered and asked to move. Later I personally asked for the room to be cleaned three times and gave the room number. Staff said they’d get to it after 3 p.m. because many rooms were checking out. Nobody had told me to put up a housekeeping sign, yet they spoke as though it was my fault for not doing so. Staff didn’t seem to communicate with each other or give housekeeping clear instructions. They also didn’t refill the water bottles. I think water should be provided even when a guest doesn’t request cleaning, but they just said I could ask for bottles at the counter. Toothbrushes and disposable slippers weren’t provided either, with the explanation that it was a budget hotel. I hope the owner sees this and takes action. The location is fairly central, but I don’t recommend staying here.

We paid 1,800 baht for two nights, even though the hotel’s actual rate was 550 baht a night, or 1,100 for two nights. The place doesn’t seem to have had much reinvestment and isn’t well looked after. The water was dirty and the shower wasn’t very clean. To be fair, I think the cleaning staff were trying their best to keep the room clean.
