Khamthana the Colonial Hotel Chiangrai

At the restaurant, nobody spoke English, so explaining my dietary restrictions was stressful and exhausting. I eventually managed to eat well, but communication was really difficult. Some people at reception also seemed annoyed when I asked a simple question about where to pay for dinner. The building and rooms are very old and need renovation. Khamthana Colonial Hotel Chiang Rai didn’t live up to what I expected from a four-star hotel, and I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for proper four-star comfort and service.

The breakfast buffet was very limited and below standard, and the coffee machine didn’t work. The rooms are spacious, but very old, with worn furniture. The photos are outdated and don’t show how the place looks now. It needs a lot of care and upkeep, and it isn’t the four-star hotel advertised. Very disappointing, wouldn’t recommend.

The location near the old airport comes with plenty of amenities around it. The rooms are very comfortable, the service is great, and the place is well maintained.

The food was poor, to put it mildly, though the service was fine. Everything was clean and well kept, but the place feels very dated. From the old-fashioned keys and air conditioning to the furniture and TV, it looks like it might have been amazing in the 1980s, but that was a long time ago.
