Tiger costs 1200 BAHT, while an elephant ride is 700 BAHT. The elephants are fine, though you can barely see much while riding one. For the best effect, film the crew behind you. If you want a picture with the cats, expect to pay 300 BAHT. The cats themselves aren't really dangerous, they're all overweight and lazy.

The place is fun and chaotic, with a slightly dusty charm. It’s a strange mix of crocodiles, elephants, superheroes, and even haircut services all in one afternoon. I came across a tiny convenience store, a working barber shop, Hulk, and Spider-Man hanging around together, which felt like a very odd crossover. The elephant ride was gentle and probably the most peaceful five minutes there. The crocodile show was impressive, especially since everyone seemed to leave with the same number of limbs. The monkey show made the monkeys look more hardworking than most people before coffee. Arriving by boat gets you a free golf cart ride to the camp, which feels quite VIP until you remember what you’re heading in to see. As Tony Jaa might say after roundhouse-kicking a snack stand, Chang Paul Camp is half thrilling jungle adventure and half confused roadside attraction. Three stars, and I’d visit again, though I’d bring lower expectations and more sunscreen.

Talking with the long-neck ladies was interesting and nice, and we bought some of their handicrafts. I also enjoyed the elephant ride and getting pictures beside a liger or tiger, but the place felt very commercial. The staff kept hurrying us along, asking for tickets and telling us to move even as we were reaching an attraction. They were always trying to sell something extra. I liked the experience itself, but not the staff approach. They should be nicer to tourists and stop pressuring people to buy souvenirs.

There’s a café and outdoor seating for anyone who doesn’t want to ride the elephants. The elephants are well trained, but the ride is quite short, and the seats aren’t very comfortable. You can buy a basket of bananas for 100 to feed them during a brief trip on the lake. They take photos and offer framed copies for sale, but you can say no. You can also tell them beforehand that you don’t want photos taken. It’s a good facility, and the staff try to accommodate guests without pestering them much about extras. If you’ve done this before, though, it may feel short and overrated.

Watching the elephants being cared for was something I appreciated, and riding close to them in a natural setting made for a memorable visit to Chang Puak Camp. The slow ride felt peaceful and relaxing, and the whole experience was unique. I think it’s important to choose places that treat animals responsibly.
