Monn Phu Phrai

The weak room Wi-Fi ended up costing me: I used all the data on my SIM and had to buy another package at a considerable price. Even so, I really enjoyed my 12 nights here in June 2019 and hope to come back. The resort is beautiful and felt like a paradise, especially with so few guests around. My room was nice and housekeeping did a good job. The young women at reception and in the restaurant were warm, friendly people, and I’m grateful to the staff and owners for a memorable stay. Chiang Mai is around a 40-50 minute drive away, so this isn’t the spot for nightlife. I couldn’t explore the nearby sights because of other commitments, and there are only a few local shops for basic supplies.

I called it home for two months. Everyone on staff was great and really accommodating, and the huts come in different sizes, which helps if you’re travelling with a big family. The pool was the best I’ve been in, so clear and clean. I’d highly recommend Monn Phi Phrai to anyone travelling around northern Thailand.

The pool was great, the food was nice, and everything was beautifully clean. The people were friendly and welcoming, with good English that helped us feel at home. But the beds were the hardest we came across on our trip, and dogs barking through the night and early morning spoiled the stay for us.

I felt completely cut off here, though whether that suits you is a personal call. There’s a very small village nearby, but I didn’t get to visit it. The resort sits deep in the jungle, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, and was a surprise: well maintained, beautifully designed stone cabins among lots of trees and flowers. There’s a nice swimming pool, continental breakfast, and mostly Thai dishes for dinner, ordered à la carte. It seems like a good base for nature and sports activities in the area.
