The Train Hotel Hatyai

I didn’t actually stay at this hotel by Hat Yai Railway Station. I came to look around the area, which is a nice spot for some old-school train spotting. It was lovely seeing those two old locomotives, shown in the photos here.

We spent two nights here, and Rm. 322 was completely unacceptable. Both the room and toilet smelled disgusting, the shower barely had enough water to wash with, and the sink and its stand were detached. The staff couldn’t manage English well enough to communicate. Being close to the train is the only thing this hotel has going for it.

You can walk to the major shopping facilities, which is handy. But the place really needs tidying up and an upgrade. When it rains, it leaks everywhere.

The room came with a fridge, TV, two glass cups, one tall tea glass cup, a kettle, lots of hangers, two bars of hard soap, two shampoo sachets and two hair-cover packs. There was no hairdryer. Trains start as early as before 6am and run until 9pm, so keep that in mind if you need sleep. Beyond that, this hotel was terrible. The toilets stank, the building looked run down and badly in need of major renovations, and wear and tear was everywhere. It looked worse than other budget hotels in Hatyai, and the aircon wasn’t cold. I really wonder how it gets such high ratings.
