West key Kamala Villa

The staff were friendly when we arrived, helped with our bags and check-in, and assisted with luggage again at checkout. They tended the pool and garden once or twice a day. We could have had daily room service, though we didn't request it. WhatsApp details were provided, and replies were mostly timely. Each bedroom has its own key, while a card key attached to the room key opens the villa's electronic lock. The villa is made up of separate buildings, with detached ensuite rooms, each with a verandah and outdoor seating. There are also a kitchen, lounge, outdoor dining area, and sala. It's along a local thoroughfare off the main road, alongside Fantasea. The bedrooms' air conditioning worked well against the heat and humidity. There are ceiling fans, but we didn't use them because the chains were too short to reach easily, and there didn't seem to be other controls. We couldn't leave doors or windows open because there were LOTS of mosquitos, so I'd bring repellent for the room and yourself. Beds are on the firm side but still comfortable, and the sheets were great. The beds in rooms 1 and 3 are quite high, around 90cm. The kitchen is well equipped, though with shops nearby we only used it to get food or drinks from the fridge and heat food in the microwave. The pool is fairly shallow, closer to 1.2m than 1.4m by my estimate, which was perfect for my kids. It didn't seem to be chlorinated, which worried me a bit, though there seemed to be no ill effects. Each person gets one towel a day; extras cost 100 baht per day. Not all the TVs worked, though the lounge one did, and the Wi-Fi wasn't great. There'd been storms, so maybe that was the cause. Luckily I had a local SIM and everyone used my hotspot. There are eateries and several massage places within a two-minute walk, plus a mini Big C and 7-eleven. The market at the end of the road, on the main road, runs Mondays and Fridays and had yummy food and a few stalls selling various goods. A larger market seemed to be open daily about 1.6km away along the main road in Kamala, to the left. There's shopping, hairdressers, and bars on the way, and a more touristy shopping road toward the beach. We stayed three nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. West Key Kamala Villa had enough nearby that we could happily have spent the whole visit there. We went to a couple of eateries, got fried chicken by mini Big C two or three times, walked farther down the road for fresh fruit and coconuts, and ate plenty of 7-eleven food. Each of us got a shake at least once a day from the stall across the road. Shout out to the woman there who made the best shakes and arranged an airport van when ours fell through. We'd definitely stay again.

The pool was a treat most days, even though we walked about 15 minutes to the beach as well. Rooms were spacious, with air conditioning and pretty large bathrooms, and the place was very clean. There's a cleaning lady who comes daily and does a more general clean every two days. If she's around, she'll help with directions or food prep, and showed us how to properly clean mangoes, pineapples, and other local fruit. She'll make breakfast whenever you need and can wash clothes for 100 baht/kg. A couple of small things could be better. There's some noise from what I think is the water pump, and sometimes from the street. It wasn't very loud, but with jet lag it took us one night to get used to it. Breakfast could use a bit more variety.

We had a great stay, and the place was very clean. A woman cleaned the rooms every two days and changed the towels daily. Breakfast was the weak point, since we had nearly the same food each day. Laundry cost 100 tbh per kg.

I still haven’t had any reply after reaching out for more than two years. Someone at the property must have found my grandmother’s ring by now. I really thought people in Thailand were honest.
