Grand Kokkod Khao Kho

The steep hillside setting in Khao Kho is beautiful and thoughtfully laid out, and we had a wonderful stay. I’m not sure why the ratings are so low. It isn’t wheelchair accessible, and some of the steps to get around are steep, though anyone reasonably mobile should manage, or can ask for a room close to reception. We got the welcome drink, towels, and fresh fruit in our room, which was a really nice touch. We asked to switch rooms, and the staff were wonderfully accommodating about moving us. For 15,000 a night, I expected much more. I’ve travelled extensively internationally, and this room and experience were far too expensive for what we got. We stayed two nights and heard various noises from 6 am until after midnight both nights, including children banging on doors. The rooms are cold and have no heating, and there was no hot water at the basin. The restaurant was open, but the menu was very limited and not up to an international standard for either breakfast or dinner. Check-in was minimal, and on the morning we left, the toilet got blocked, which was very unpleasant. I also got the impression the hotel doesn’t take negative feedback well instead of treating it as useful information for improvement.

I didn’t know about this hotel until I found it, and honestly, it’s the best in town. Great service, good food, and wow, the rooms are nice. If you’re in khao kho, go here. The team is good, and I’d recommend it personally.
