Resolution Resort

We booked a week at Resolution Resort in June 2025. We had driven down this remote road ten years earlier, when it had many luxurious resorts and a beautiful wooden boardwalk around the peninsula. Now the boardwalk has collapsed, and broken, run-down resorts line the road. Resolution Resort is still open, but unless it improves its services significantly, I can see it falling into the same decline. The so-called hideaway retreat felt very restrictive. The free boat shuttle wasn't running because of low tides, but rather than provide a free songtaow to the pier, they charged 300 baht each way for a 3 km trip. Getting to Kai Bae for a proper beach, a swim, a massage, or a meal out cost 400 baht each way. We spent 800 baht a day just on transport. We wanted a room facing the sea. The best room at the front was piled with old furniture and junk, spilling onto the verandah. We ate at the resort restaurant one night. I ordered vegetable spring rolls with cashew nut dipping sauce, but they were dried out and miserable, with no vegetables, just glass noodles flavoured with soy sauce. There was no cashew sauce, only sweet chilli. I was up and down to the toilet all night and still felt ill the next day, so we didn't eat there again during the week. The rooms were cleaned daily, and we got two bottles of water, which wasn't enough in that heat. There was nowhere to store clothes, so I left mine on a bench seat. Heavy rain came through the window frame even though the window was shut, soaking all my clothes. The frame didn't fit properly, and someone had tried to patch the gap with silicone. Most of my books were in a plastic bag, thankfully, but one got wet. There was nowhere to hang wet clothes, so we bought rope and made a line. The pool was nice, which mattered since the beach was covered in rubbish. Before swimming, I used the pool net to scoop out the leaves floating on the surface. The staff seemed busy sitting around on their phones, but came to help once they saw me cleaning. There were other maintenance problems too. The fridge door kept swinging open, so we wedged a brick under it to tilt it back. A very disappointing stay. The price doesn't match what's provided, and we won't return even if it cost half as much.

It's a very remote spot, about 2 km from Bao Pier, so it's a good fit if you want real quiet. The food was good and the staff were friendly hosts, with service staff especially helpful about everything. The boat service was great too. The hotel has a lot of potential, but feels a bit unattended. Minor repairs and better organisation between the rooms and pools could improve it a lot.

The scenery is breathtaking, the resort is stunning, and the yellow curry we tried was delicious. The staff were amazing and did everything they could for us. It's near Bang Bao pier, and they run a shuttle boat to a nearby beach and the pier at set times. We stayed one night before taking the ferry from Bang Bao pier to Koh Mak, and the resort arranged our ticket, which was very helpful. Thanks so much, Dee. I highly recommend it and hope to return.

A quiet hotel with beautiful surroundings and a clean, pleasant pool overlooking the ocean. The staff are very helpful, especially Dee, who can sort out anything you need, including a motorbike. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Koh Chang.
