Wendy The Pool Resort

The beach location is easily this hotel's biggest asset, and the staff were genuinely friendly. Reception was helpful with scooter rental and ferry bookings. But in my opinion, at an average THB 11,500 per night, around 360 USD, this is very poor value. At that price you'd expect some luxury, especially in a country where a meal costs around 4$. We were disappointed as soon as we arrived at the Wendy. The entrance street hasn't been cared for, and reception feels like a staff or service entrance. Inside, the dated decor reminded me of an Italian 2-star hotel from the 1980s. The rooms are nicely decorated, but other parts of the hotel lack style, upkeep and attention to detail. The exterior wood panels no longer look like real wood, giving the building a slightly industrial, brick-like appearance instead of a boho or tropical feel. In the room, the mattress was quite hard, and the curtains let in too much light. They're awkwardly split into several small parts, with no thin privacy curtain, so people at the pool or in opposite rooms can see inside. Warped doors were difficult to close and lock. The shower and bathtub area is very spacious, though it looks old and reminded us of a hammam, which some people might like. The sink siphon leaked now and then, but staff tried to fix it right away. We also saw moss near the ceiling. Used beach towels left fabric residue on our skin. The grass and garden behind the beach were poorly maintained, even though the area isn't large and wouldn't take much effort to look after. Breakfast had plenty of options, but quality was low: Asian dishes were often cold, bread sliced extremely thin, cheese left uncooled in 28°C heat, an average omelette and bitter coffee. The hotel is owned by the same company as other properties on the island. The nearby Peter Pan hotel looked even worse, with roofs that seemed close to falling apart. To me, this is a 2-3 star hotel with an amazing location. At a much lower price, it might be fine, but the current rates don't justify the cost.
