The best bits were the squirrels in the morning, monkeys at sunset, the clean little pool, and a great view when walking down the hills toward the road. We had a family bungalow with a garden view and an okay terrace at the back. But sitting on the furniture left old paint coming off on your skin, and we barely spent time there. We would have changed hotels, but everywhere was sold out. I can only speak for our room. We weren’t expecting much at that price, but it was worse than we thought. The old furniture was broken, doors and windows had gaps for insects, and the bathroom was dirty and worn. The tub had dirt that wouldn’t come off, the tap was grimy, and the shower hose was so short we had to sit in the tub to wash. Water pressure was almost nonexistent and the water barely warm. There were cockroaches in the toilet tank, and the sink tap swung around with very little pressure. The AC was old and loud, and its broken remote fell apart, so we couldn’t adjust the temperature or fan speed, or turn it on and off. The TV wasn’t there, though its remote was. The fridge was dirty, sat on the floor, and switched off when the room key wasn’t in place. The water glasses had toothpaste on them. The towels were clean but ripped and full of holes. We asked to change rooms, but couldn’t, and promised repairs never happened. The pillows were stained, and we could feel every mattress spring. We don’t complain much, but even basic things weren’t working.
