The Old Times Lanta

It’s a peaceful spot on the quieter, more laid-back side of the island, just right for unwinding. I loved listening to the sea beneath the bed as I drifted off, or swinging in a hammock at the end of the jetty. The owner is wonderful, helpful, and does everything he can for you. The hotel is beautiful and set in a picturesque location. It’s comfortable and clean, and the price is enjoyable. Well worth a stay.

The owner and manager is a wonderful presence. She runs a shop across from the B&B with lots of things she’s made or sewn herself, and she can help arrange transport and scooter rental. Breakfast is provided, and sometimes she can do brunch too. There was fresh-cut pineapple in the fridge at the end of every day. Just to be clear, this is a relative five-star review, not a five-star hotel. It’s a Bohemian stay. Our room was spartan and a little hard to get around in, but at $25 per night you wouldn’t expect much more. Old Lanta is quiet and off the beaten path if that’s what you’re after.

We were sorry to leave and would’ve liked to stay longer. The staff are fantastic, and Rattana even showed us how to make some Thai dishes. We were first given a room on the inland side, but wanted a sea view, and they kindly moved us to a great room right on the dock. It was called "Toto Chan," and we’d highly recommend it.

Each room has its own themed decor. Ours was brown sugar, rolling stones themed. It’s a nice place to stay, with the sound of the sea under your bed. I’d recommend it for couples or solo travelers, though probably not families with kids.
