Chunut House Resort

We were promised a fantastic room for the last night, but after moving, it wasn’t really any better than the first one. If the receptionist had been honest, we wouldn’t have gone to the trouble. That was part of a much bigger problem: we didn’t get the room we booked, and the receptionist couldn’t offer a solution. The WiFi simply didn’t work. Around twenty hotel guests had a party outside our room at 11 p.m.; we reported it, but the person at reception did nothing. There were other problems too, including the shower. This was the worst quality for the price I’ve ever experienced, and the only place in Thailand where I didn’t feel treated honestly or respectfully.

We arrived on the island to find we had nowhere to stay, since it was the last ferry of the day. I’d booked six months ahead for a two-week visit, but the hotel had cancelled the reservation the day before without telling me. The booking company confirmed the hotel had cancelled it. The woman at the front desk just laughed and offered no help. They said we could stay for five days on a later date, but at triple the price. This seems to happen to other guests too. It was incredibly stressful and disheartening, and the hotel is far from the main center. Don’t stay here.

We booked four Deluxe Bungalows and ended up cancelling. At check-in, the receptionist was rude and immediately pressed us to pay, then tried to put us in two standard bungalows that looked awful and weren’t what we’d booked. She blamed booking.com, and whenever we asked how to sort it out, she cut us off and interrupted. We had to find another hotel. A disgusting experience, scammers.

The location worked really well, close to the busy area but quiet enough that we didn’t hear disruptive noise. They met us at the pier and carried our bags when we left, which was so helpful. The staff were lovely, the pool was great, and there was complimentary coffee, tea, fruit, and toast. The service was amazing. I’d definitely recommend it. Juli and Esteban from Argentina
