Kunna House

The owner made everything easy from the start. He picked us up from the pier, and within minutes of checking in we had a scooter and a boat trip arranged through him. He also dropped us back at the pier after check-in. He could even have organized our boat to Phuket if we hadn’t already booked the ferry. He was helpful and efficient throughout. The room was spacious, very clean, and had everything we needed for three nights. The shower pressure was the best we had on the whole trip. Kunna House was ideally located for us, with town and beaches a quick scooter ride away. The balcony became my best birdwatching spot of the trip. It was lovely sitting out there listening to birdsong, cicadas, and the call to prayer. Highly recommend.

The internet held steady at 75 Mbps, which worked well for remote work. It was clean, calm, and comfortable. The host picked me up at the pier and brought me back, and I could rent a Scoopy scooter for 250 a day. Happy to stay here again.

We booked through Airbnb ten months ahead because the island is small and places fill up quickly. We wanted decent accommodation at a reasonable price. At 10:30 pm the night before check-in, the host messaged that we couldn’t stay because the room had been double booked. We felt it was obvious that other guests had been given priority over us, despite our booking so far in advance. The host did try to find alternative accommodation and was very apologetic, which we appreciate. But what they offered for the same price wasn’t the same standard and had some questionable reviews. As Airbnb hosts ourselves, we don’t think cancelling about 14 hours before check-in is acceptable, especially on a small island. We were left scrambling, and most places were either sold out or luxury resorts beyond our budget. We ended up changing our plans and taking a boat to Koh Yao Yai instead. We had a great time there and would recommend readers consider visiting Koh Yao Yai. We booked this accommodation on Airbnb and would caution others booking it there. If the same disorganization happens again, it could spoil someone’s trip and hurt their bank account.

The bungalows are lovely, with a view across the paddy fields. In the morning and evening, the fields come with a little “concert.” We even spotted a hornbill in the forest on the way to our bungalow. The people were helpful and picked us up, then took us back to the port. I’d highly recommend staying here.
