Anahata Resort Samui

The sunrise colors, pink and purple, were breathtaking, and the sunsets had their own fireworks. I loved walking along the shore, with warm sand underfoot and clean, inviting water. Early in the morning, three resident dogs would come check that I was “one of the pack,” then stay beside me. The place felt completely safe. Anahata Resort felt magical to me, even more so when I thought about it a few weeks later back in my normal routine. I felt looked after, listened to and cherished throughout. Annabel, our organizer, was there for everything, from friendly chats and event changes to appointments. No question seemed too odd and no request too difficult. Simon’s Reiki sessions took me on colorful journeys and left me feeling weightless, carefree, and full of love for everything. I’d make them part of a visit here. The masseuses were wonderful, the restaurant team kind and helpful, the tea ceremony master wise and knowledgeable, and the personal trainer was fit and fabulous, ladies, bring a bib. The aqua-fit trainer seemed ageless, and there were so many talented yoga teachers. The food was delicious, the juices were fresh, and coconuts were always on hand. My room was roomy, had good air conditioning, and the WiFi worked. I can’t comment on the TV because in two weeks I never even thought to switch it on. I loved every minute and can’t wait to return.

We meant to stay two nights at Anahata and ended up there for a whole week. It’s a lovely quiet spot on the island, especially suited to couples. The rooms are spacious, the amenities are great, and breakfast had a decent selection with fresh coffee. We enjoyed all the activities: muay tai and yoga classes, paddle boarding, kayaking, the sauna, the well-equipped gym, and both pools. Rey and everyone we met were so kind. Thank you!

The beach was lovely, with spectacular sunsets, and we were glad there were a few restaurants just a short walk away given the resort’s prices. Nikki resort is right next door and, for $38 more per night, offers a much better deal. The resort itself was very run down, with unfriendly staff. Rooms barely pass muster and maintenance attempts were poorly done. Reception staff welcomed us, though their English was limited. Restaurant staff greeted us with “room number,” and there were no smiles. Cracked concrete floors made for plenty of trip hazards. The paving had sunk so much that we had to pick a table carefully to avoid one rocking like a see-saw.

The people working there are nice, and the area is calm and relaxing. But it’s far from everything, so you’ll need a scooter or car. We found a cockroach, and a lizard sometimes came into the bungalow. The food was edible, though the quality wasn’t great and the price felt too high, so I wouldn’t recommend eating there for lunch or dinner.
