The Garden Resort Nongkhai

The rice soup at breakfast was actually quite good, though the instant coffee wasn't great and the toast came with cheap margarine and jam. The price was good, and I'd stay again. We had a stand-alone unit, one of two types they offer alongside hongthaew units. It was a pleasant resort setting, with a large room, two nightstands, a desk, TV, and fridge. The only thing I didn't like was the bathroom layout, with the drain at the front and the toilet at the back.

Being able to get meals from the kitchen and have my laundry done made things easy, so I could go explore Thailand without worrying about that stuff. Sometimes I'd cook a big meal in the kitchen for everyone, and there's a blender too. I also made a lot of friends here, with many Thai and Lao people passing through. It's a cool place just outside Nong Khai City, with lots of trees, flowers, and friendly staff. I stayed a little over two months in what became my favorite town in Thailand. There's dual-band WiFi, small shops, a couple of restaurants, coffee shops, and a 7-11 about 100 yards up the street, plus a local outdoor farmers market across from it. The rooms have a TV, AC, and fridge, and you can ask for a portable fan. There are hammocks to hang outside your room and bicycles you can use.

It's a quiet place with countryside views, a good choice if you're looking to relax, though it isn't a luxury stay. I recommend it. Staff are very friendly, the room was clean, and WiFi is free. Dogs are allowed for an extra 100 baht, but check with staff about the charge. With your own transport, Nongkhai is about five minutes away; 7-Eleven is a two or three minute walk. If you need a ride, just tell the staff. There's a temple nearby, and plenty of cheap Thai snacks and food around. This was my second stay.

A quiet countryside place that's not expensive, with very friendly staff. You can bring your dog, and they charge 50 baht for it. Breakfast is served free at 07:30. In the morning, there's all kinds of Thai food and snacks near the 7-11.
