We had a great three-night stay. It was quiet and peaceful, the air conditioning worked great, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Town is a bit of a walk, though not too bad, and there's a free shuttle into the center.

Pai Tara is an inexpensive hostel, but there are a few drawbacks. There are only two showers for lots of guests, and you'll need to bring your own toilet paper for the restroom. The beds are hard rubber mats and weren't comfortable. The blankets were used children's comforters, and the pillows were old. Staff only speak Thai and were often rude when guests asked for things they thought were too much trouble. Approach with caution. I gave it two stars for the location and the comfortable thatched-roof outdoor buildings above a water-filled creek.

The rice fields make a lovely setting, and the bar has a really good vibe with cool people to meet. The couple working there are amazing. They’re one of the reasons I’ll keep coming back to Pai.

A quiet spot on the edge of Pai, where town gives way to the countryside. The staff were incredibly helpful, and it made a wonderful base for a day of exploring by motocross. Five stars, easily.

Now called Backpackers Paradise, it’s a peaceful place with nice rooms and somewhere to unwind in the warm breeze and enjoy the scenery. There’s also a free ride into town.
