New Square Patong Hotel

The location is the only real upside, especially if you want to be near Jungceylon shopping mall and a reasonably nice beach in Patong. The laundry service lost some of my clothes and returned somebody else’s. When I brought those back, staff acted like they couldn’t speak English, even though they’d spoken it perfectly well before. The rooms are pretty gross: mould in the showers, smoke smells when other guests smoke, brown (blood) and black marks on the walls, and a layer of dust. The balcony door post pulls away from the wall a bit when you open the door, and who knows when the air con was last cleaned. The walls are thin, other guests get noisy, and the noise fine isn’t really enforced. Some guests even sexually harass you. Honestly, I’d look for a room to rent nearby or book through booking.com.

The mall is right across the street, and for the price I’d still give this place a solid 4 because the location is great. It’s a good option for young people staying one to three days, but not ideal for families with children. The beach is about a 15-minute walk away. The hotel wasn’t very clean, especially the dusty balcony. The bed was hard, but I actually liked that. Breakfast didn’t have much variety, though you could get an omelet, so that was fine.

The location was the only good thing. The bedsheet was dirty when we arrived, and nobody came to clean the room during our three-day stay. Staff were very rude and terrible. They took a security deposit and returned it at checkout, but said they might deduct money if they saw something in the room they didn’t like. I don’t recommend the place at all. The rating should be five or six at most. They need to replace the staff, especially the two women at reception, take better care of room cleanliness, and stop taking what I see as an illegitimate deposit from guests. Until then, I wouldn’t recommend it.

The staff never smiled, and we couldn’t use the bellman trolley because they said they didn’t provide that service or have anyone to carry our bags. For a hotel calling itself four star, the room felt very basic and the staff service fell short. Breakfast was especially frustrating. There were few vegetarian choices, and a restaurant staff member refused to give us milk for our baby or let me fill a bottle with water. The following morning, when we asked for a breakfast box instead, she let me fill the milk bottle because the box didn’t include milk, something I’d already asked for the day before. I’ve added a photo of the box. On checkout day, we were ready on time, but when we asked for fresh towels an hour before leaving, housekeeping refused, saying we were checking out. The electricity was switched off at noon even though we were ready to leave then. In the shared restroom, neither of the two toilet cubicle doors would close.
