Jomtien Boathouse

The room was spacious and the bed comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and fine for what we needed. We’d booked late and got a room at the back with no view except a broken air conditioner. The TV was smaller than I’m used to, though maybe that’s expecting a lot from a budget hotel. There was a kettle and mugs, but no tea or coffee. Maybe housekeeping missed them. I travel with coffee anyway, so didn’t worry about it. What really bothered me was the musty, mouldy smell, which seemed to get worse through the evening. There’s barely any ventilation, since the little window opens onto the kitchen extractor. That may be why the door was propped open when we arrived at 2pm. I didn’t complain, just bought deodorising spray at 7/11 to cover it up for now. We faced the beach, and the location was really good. There’s a nice restaurant on the first floor. We ate there once and were happy with the food and service, but three different customers, including me, asked if it had air conditioning and were told no. Odd in such a hot country. Maybe it’s a cost issue or the unit’s broken, but we didn’t press it. There was an Elvis night in the restaurant and bar downstairs. I’m told that’s a regular thing. Would I stay again? Yes, but I’d want a front room with a balcony and some fresh air. I had mixed feelings about the place.
