Nora Bukit Hotel

The facilities were clean and modern, and the staff were very kind and friendly. For a hostel, this is a pretty good place and the price is good. But don’t expect a private room. You get a hostel-style bed behind cardboard-like walls about two meters high, open at the top, so you can hear everyone clearly. Other guests have mentioned the same thing. Calling it a private room is misleading, and you may feel scammed if that’s what you expect. Adjust your expectations and be ready for a hostel, or book somewhere else. It’s about a two-kilometer walk to the city center, so it isn’t very close.

They charged a 200 Bhat deposit for each room. At checkout, a male staff member started shouting and said he wanted to take 350 Bhat from our deposit because a towel had color or makeup on it. We offered to take the towel, wash it, and bring it back, but they refused to hand it over. It seemed to us they knew that if we cleaned it ourselves, they couldn’t deduct the money. They kept the towel and took the deduction. The staff were rude, and when we asked to speak with the owner or manager, they refused to meet us. The bathroom doors were poor and wouldn’t lock. There were also curtains hanging in the bathroom that looked awful and were covered in fungus.

We arrived around midnight after a long flight. The hotel representatives told us they no longer accept reservations made through their official website, only through booking.com and trip.com. They turned us away even though we’d already paid on the hotel’s own site. The one good thing was that they let us use the wifi to find another hotel. 🤮

The rooms were really clean and the service was good. I liked that housekeeping respected the do not disturb sign and didn’t come into the room. Monkey Hill is nearby, but the hotel isn’t close to any beaches, and it was hard to book tours from there. I enjoyed my stay, though I probably wouldn’t come back.
